THE PEOPLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED! THOMAS SCHULTZ PLAYS RZEWSKI'S PIANO VARIATIONS
Sunday September 2, 2018 @ 2 PM
Koret Auditorium - San Francisco Public Library
100 Larkin Street in San Francisco
Acclaimed pianist Thomas Schultz will dazzle music lovers when he performs American composer Frederic Rzewski's landmark composition THE PEOPLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED. Rzewski's hour-long piano variations are based on a famous song by Chilean composer Sergio Ortega, ¡El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido! After the overthrow of Chile's democratically elected president Salvador Allende in 1973, this song became an international anthem of resistance to tyranny.
Rzewski's piano variations are both complex and accessible, dramatic and appealing.
