it sounds like all my dreams

Volti, the Bay Area's acclaimed new-music vocal ensemble, opens its 42nd season with the premiere of Anne Hege's "it sounds like all my dreams." Written for Volti's 16 singers, "it sounds like all my dreams" combines live singing, pre-recorded choruses, and video/electronic music interludes. The live sections are genuinely live, with all the risk associated with live online performance. The purpose of this piece is to create something expressive and musical within the constraints of the current technology and to show the very different nature of three spaces - live sound through video conferencing, pre-recorded performance (virtual chorus), and a broader dream/natural world as represented in the tape tracks. This mini-concert is being offered free of charge; Volti asks that patrons consider making a $25 donation. The piece will last less than half an hour, with a discussion session with the composer and singers to follow.
