Sing-It-Yourself Mozart Requiem
Experienced Singers Invited to Sing Mozart's Requiem
Livermore, CA - The Valley Concert Chorale, the Tri-Valley’s premier chorus for over 50 years, will open their doors in September to all Bay Area singers with a bold new project. Experienced singers are invited to sing the Mozart Requiem in an October performance with VCC members. Starting September 13 and for the next two Monday evenings, singers will meet in Livermore to rehearse the great choral masterwork. Details are as follows:
Sing-It-Yourself Mozart Requiem
Rehearsals are on Monday nights
September 13, 20, and 27. 7pm
First Presbyterian Church
2020 Fifth Street, Livermore
Evening performance is Saturday, October 2, at the same location in Livermore, 7pm.
$30 participation fee payable at the door.
“As we regroup and begin singing together again, we wanted to offer singers throughout the Bay Area the opportunity to share in the power and beauty of Mozart’s the great choral masterpiece,” says Bill Leach, president of the Valley Concert Chorale. “Many choral groups offer sing-alongs, including our annual Sing-It-Yourself Messiah held every December, but we wanted to take this event to a different level.”
“We are offering a higher quality performance by holding three rehearsals, with the final performance with orchestra as Mozart intended,” explains the Chorale’s Artistic Director, John Emory Bush.” The performance will be live-streamed.
Experienced singers who have previously sung the Requiem are especially encouraged to participate. Those who have not can easily learn their part in advance on the internet at cyberbass.com.
“We will use the edition of the Requiem completed by the great Mozart scholar Robert Levin that includes an added fugue,” adds Bush. Levin scores will be available for $15.
Scores can be purchased from the Chorale at the rehearsals. Due to space limitations, the event is limited to 100 singers. There is no audition requirement. Singers must have received full COVID vaccination.
