“The program features three components: Carols, Glorias and Lullabies which will be presented in those groupings,” explains John Emory Bush, VCC Artistic Director. “As is VCC’s tradition, the audience will be welcomed to join us in singing familiar carols that including Joy to the World, The First Nowell and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”
Other familiar carols include the 16th century French carol Ding, Dong Merrily on High in a light and fun arrangement by Mack Wilberg, conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The beautiful Austrian carol Still, Still, Still as arranged by Norman Luboff, is a Christmas classic. And, Daniel Kantor's arrangement of Silent Night is both simple and tender.
“The most challenging piece comes from the Gloria section and features our own Daniel Glover with a virtuosic piano accompaniment in Randal Bass's Gloria,” adds Bush. We will complete the Gloria portion of the program with two well-known selections, And the Glory of the Lord from Handel’s Messiah and the first movement of Vivaldi's Gloria.
Finally, the Lullabies selections feature two lullabies by one of today’s great choral composers, the Norwegian Kim Andre Arnesen: Cradle Hymn and His Light in Us.
