Auditions for Valley Concert Chorale 2019-2020 Season

Livermore, Calif. – The Valley Concert Chorale, the Tri-Valley’s premier chorus for over 50 years, is now scheduling appointments for auditions for singers who would like to be a part of the Chorale’s 2019-2020 concert season. Auditions will be held on the following dates:

• Mondays, September 9 and 16

The Chorale is seeking experienced singers with sight-reading skills who enjoy singing exciting and challenging music. The Chorale performs a wide variety of music ranging from classical to contemporary, and folk to jazz. To schedule an appointment, call (925) 866-4003.

The Chorale’s season includes three concert sets entitled “Celebrate the Splendors of Choral Beauty” featuring the following performances:

A British Christmas: Celebrate with Carols from The Choir of Kings College, Cambridge

Sunday, December 15, 3:00pm

Featuring the music of Stephen Cleobury, Arvo Part, David Willcocks (his 100th birthday), Carl Rutti, John Tavener, Vaughan Williams, and John Rutter. Traditional audience sing-along

Celebrate the Night: Dreams, the Moon and Stars
Sunday, March 15, 2020; 3:00pm

Johannes Brahms’ O Schone Nacht, Eric Whitacre's Sleep; Daniel Elder's Three Nocturnes; Morten Lauridsen's Sure on this Shining Night; Stephen Foster's Beautiful Dreamer; Harline/Washington's When you Wish Upon a Star; Mercer/Mancini's Moon River; and pianist Daniel Glover featured in Ludwig van Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

Celebrate Composers Significant Birthdays in 2020: from 75 to 450!
Saturday May 9, 2020, 7:30pm

The great British composer John Rutter is 75 and some of his most popular songs will be featured: For the Beauty of the Earth, All Things Bright and Beautiful, and The Sprig of Thyme with Cantabella Children’s Choir; Ludwig van Beethoven at 250 with his riveting Hallelujah from the Mt. of Olives; and in remembering the Notre Dame Cathedral, where Louis Vierne, at 150, served as the organist, with excerpts from his Solemn Mass.

The 15-minute audition involves some sight reading and rhythmic exercise. Please bring a short selection (art song, hymn, My Country Tis of Thee, etc.) in any language. Singers must commit to the season with Monday evening rehearsals held at the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore. The church is located at 2020 Fifth Street.

About the Director
John Emory Bush has been the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Valley Concert Chorale since 1998. He holds a Master’s degree from the Juilliard School of Music and is also trained as a pianist, organist and harpist. He was Music Director and Conductor of the San Francisco Concert Chorale for eighteen seasons and Director of Music and Organist at St. Matthew's Episcopal Cathedral in Dallas from 2000-2010. Mr. Bush is Music Director of Music and Organist at First United Methodist Church, McKinney, Texas. For the past fifteen years, Mr. Bush has divided his time between the Bay Area and Dallas, contributing to both musical communities.
