Our first program features violin virtuoso, Liana Bérubé, in what must be the most popular masterpiece of the Baroque era,
Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, with its depictions of unique weather patterns, natural phenomena, and characteristic energy. It is a groundbreaking work that delves into the intricate interplay of the earth’s rhythms and our psyche.
Its four violin concertos vividly represent the passing of the seasons, with extraordinarily precise musical effects, including bird calls, the zephyr winds, a lonely dog barking, flowing brooks, thunderstorms complete with hail, and of course, happy merriment, and the contentment of humanity at one with nature.
We pair this masterpiece with a work by the master of the Tango - Astor Piazzolla, his Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Tango and jazz are at the heart of this work, in a style that has come to be known as Nuevo Tango - and it pays cheeky homage to the Vivaldi original. This program will also be a tour de force for Liana - because she will perform 8 seasons, not four.
Liana Bérubé is co-founder and violinist of the Delphi Trio. Concerto performances include appearances with Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Toronto, Bear Valley Music Festival Orchestra, the Oakland Symphony, the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. She has been heard on NPR, CBC, VH1, and WFMT Chicago.
