Join us for an extravaganza of the acoustic guitar in Berkeley, California, featuring Boston’s Peter Janson and the Bay Area’s own Teja Gerken & Doug Young Duo!
Boston-based guitarist PETER JANSON specializes in performing solo jazz guitar. His concerts are unique experiences where he showcases his artistry by performing a vibrant blend of originals, jazz classics from legendary musicians ranging from Miles Davis and Tom Jobim to contemporary players like John Scofield and Immanuel Wilkins, and compelling improvisations.
Janson has been strongly influenced by the solo playing of guitarists like Joe Pass, Earl Klugh, Lionel Loueke, and Julian Lage. Over the past 25 years, he has performed extensively throughout North America, including at Carnegie Hall and the Montreal Jazz Festival. His music has been featured in video games, commercials, and news documentaries, and has charted on Billboard's top 10 as a session guitarist, and his latest album, Getting To Here, is in rotation on over 75 radio stations globally, as well as on streaming platforms.
“Peter Janson's music has the substance of great jazz presented in an original and accessible style. Truly great!” Steve Hunt, (keyboardist for Allan Holdsworth, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, and others).
San Francisco Bay Area fingerstyle guitarists TEJA GERKEN and DOUG YOUNG have performed together for more than a decade. Drawing from their individual catalogs of original compositions, Celtic tunes, arrangements of jazz standards, and the occasional classical piece, Teja and Doug present a varied repertoire. Often using a variety of guitars that may include baritone, metal-bodied resonator, and 12-strings in addition to more standard instruments, the duo takes advantage of a wide tonal palette. The duo’s 2020 release DUETS has received enthusiastic acclaim:
“Employing an impressive battery of artisan guitars, Teja and Doug produce a wonderful range of sonorities and musical directions that updates the classic chemistry of the ‘Bert & John’ (Jansch & Renbourn) recordings of the sixties–a treat for fans of both acoustic guitar music and the art of lutherie.” — Alex de Grassi
“DUETS represents modern fingerstyle at the highest level.” — Acoustic Guitar magazine
Gerken recently released his third solo album, Test of Time, which Acoustic Guitar calls “A sonic marvel from top to bottom.”
