Presented by Stanford Live

Hell’s Fury is an unforgettable new opera that examines the life of composer Hanns Eisler (1898–1962), known for his Oscar-nominated film scores, collaborations with Bertolt Brecht, and for composing the national anthem of East Germany. In the shadow of World War I, Eisler fled Nazi Germany with a visa to the United States, only to become blacklisted by Hollywood studio execs for his communist beliefs. Despite support from the Hollywood's greatest players at the time—Charlie Chaplin, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Woody Guthrie, and more—Eisler was deported. He died in East Berlin in 1962.

At Bing Concert Hall for two nights only, renowned baritone Russell Braun portrays Hanns Eisler, singing his dazzling song cycle The Hollywood Songbook alongside acclaimed pianist Serouj Kradjian. Don't miss this beautiful work with its masterful performances, unique set design, and a story that still resonates today.

Produced by Luminato, Soundstreams & Pinkhouse Productions. With support from Opera North, UK.
