The Navarro Trio at Sonoma State University will premiere a new composition entitled "Elements: Fire, Air, Water and Earth" by Brian S. Wilson, on Sunday, April 21, at 2 PM in Schroeder Hall at the Green Music Center.
Wilson is a composer and conductor who has taught music at Sonoma State since 2001. "Elements" is based on the writings of the Medieval Jewish philosopher Maimonides, who stated that everything that exists is a combination of the four fundamental elements: fire, wind, water and earth. Wilson said, "These elements provided inspiration for all 'elements' of the piece including melody, harmony, texture and form," adding, "It's my climate action piece — with an angle." Wilson composed "Elements" on a commission by the Raif Family Fund.
Featured guest performer will be Santa Rosa Symphony principal clarinetist Roy Zajac joining trio members Marilyn Thompson, piano; Tammie Dyer, violin; and Jill Brindel, cello.
Also on the program will be Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Trio in E minor, Op. 76, and Antonín Dvořák's Piano Trio in E minor, Op. 60, "Dumky."
Tickets are $12, parking included, and available online and at the door. For information call 707-664-2324.
