Marcelo Pérez is a 23-year old Salvadoran-American drummer, percussionist, composer, and educator from Berkeley, CA. He received a Bachelor's in Music from the University of Miami and a Master's in Music from the New England Conservatory. Pérez has studied and played with Dafnis Prieto, Billy Hart, and Bob Moses, and has worked professionally for Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ran Blake, Brian Lynch, John Daversa, Oscar Stagnaro, and John Hart. Through extensive travels in Cuba and Brazil, Pérez has learned and absorbed numerous Latin American drumming styles into his percussion and composition; his sound is heavily influenced not only by jazz, but also by Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, and West-African music.
