Bluesy, blustery, bawdy, and irresistibly fun, Davina & the Vagabonds have carved their own niche in the blues world with their high-energy live performances and rollicking compositions that combine elements of boogie-woogie, ragtime, early rock and Basin Strret, anchored by the prodigiously talented pianist and singer Davina Lozier. With a musical signature that marries Sowers' barrelhouse piano and gutsy, sweet vocals with a loose-limbed rhythm section and boisterous brass, Davina and Vagabonds bring an irrepressible energy.
Taking equal inspiration from Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappeli's pioneering gypsy jazz Quintette du Hot Club de France and the Western Swing of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, Hot Club of Cowtown have created a seamless and delightful hybrid that has built a global fan base and earned them a place on stage in performances with Bpb Dylan, Roxy Music, Willie Nelson, the Avett Brothers, and more. The trio was inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in 2004.
Two SFJAZZ favorites that bring a raucous blend of vintage sounds with new attitude, Davina & the Vagabonds and the Hot Club of Cowtown share this double bill that celebrates the 75th anniversary of the timeless American music that ended WWII.
