Benny Golson is a living monument to jazz. He is one of its foremost composers. He is among the most singular saxophonists of the past 60 years, boasting "an immense tone, by turns airy and burly, informed by a harmonic knowledge wide as the heavens," says DownBeat. What's more, at age 91, he continues to tour the world. A 1995 NEA Jazz Master, Golson grew up in Philadelphia, where he came of age as a musician with his close friends John Coltrane and Jimmy Heath.
A tenor saxophone legend and 1995 NEA Jazz Master, Golson composed many of jazz's most treasured standards including "Killer Joe," "I Remember Clifford" and "Whisper Not." He makes a rare West Coast appearance with his quartet.
