Female composers are all too often underrepresented in modern concert life.
The women of Curium piano trio are committed to bringing creative and diverse musical programming to their audience, and specialize in performing the music of female composers. The Curium trio highlights the works of women composers and performers alongside standard piano trio repertoire. In so doing, they have gained a reputation as performers that radiate dynamism and presence on piano, violin, and cello. Among the works to be performed are works by Clara Schumann (bicentennial year), Amy Beach, and two pieces by Pulitzer Prize and two-time Grammy-winner Jennifer Higdon.
Curium was winner of the 2017 Barbara Fritz Chamber Music Award. In the summer of 2018, Curium was a featured ensemble at the St. Lawrence String Quartet Seminar at Stanford University and was one of five ensembles chosen to play for the International Showcase at Bing Concert Hall. This summer, Curium was Ensemble-In-Residence at Avaloch Farm Music Institute.
The element curium was discovered in the Bay Area in 1944 and named after the pioneering female scientist, Marie Curie, and is a symbol of the innovations of female minds, past and present.

Support girls music education, canine companions for disabled persons, and habitats for butterflies and bees in SF
Profits from the concert go to three wonderful causes: the Young Womens Choral Projects of SF, which transforms girls lives through choral music education and performance; Canine Companions for Independence, which empowers people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support; and Nature in the City, which engages residents in butterfly, bee, and wildlife habitat restoration projects in their San Francisco neighborhoods. There will be a pre-concert reception at 6pm for concert-goers to meet these fine groups and learn about the great work they do for our community.
