This recital features live music with the Alexander String Quartet, accompanied by live video animation with Stephen Malinowski. Q&A to follow.

This event is part of “Beethoven and Modernity,” a semester-long celebration at San Francisco State University of Beethoven’s 250th birth year.

Stephen Malinowski

Stephen Malinowski is a distinguished musician, composer, inventor and software engineer. He is celebrated for his animated graphical score project, “The Music Animation Machine.” He has nearly 200,000 YouTube subscribers.

Alexander String Quartet

The Alexander String Quartet has performed in the major music capitals of five continents, securing its standing among the world’s premier ensembles, and a major artistic presence in its home base of San Francisco, serving since 1989 as ensemble in residence of San Francisco Performances and directors of the Morrison Chamber Music Center at SF State. Widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart and Shostakovich, the quartet’s recordings have won international critical acclaim.

The SF State School of Music opens its Concert Music course to the public with engaging recitals featuring student, faculty and guest performances. Enjoy the sounds and sights by solo artists and ensembles in jazz, world, chamber music, strings, choral music and more.
