Enrico Chapela Barba’s brand new commissioned work melds the exuberant vitality of the Golden Age of Mexican Mariachi music with the polished precision of a classical symphony orchestra. Written in memory of the innovative Bracero Immigration Program from 1942-1964, this world premiere is an exhilarating union of two vibrant musical traditions as a celebration of our shared humanity. Ottorino Respighi’s glittering tone poems, The Pines of Rome and The Fountains of Rome, cap our season finale with a cascade of sensual splendor in vignettes of the Eternal City.
"Headed by trumpeter Jeff Nevin, the exuberantly accomplished group of instrumentalists and singers [in Mariachi Champaña Nevín] brimmed with spirit and skill." – San Diego Union-Tribune
