Celebrating the beauty and universality of love, our May orchestral finale features the world premiere of artistic director Scot Hanna-Weir’s new work for choir and orchestra, Four Principles of Marriage, which sets the text of Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark supreme court decision that holds that same-sex marriage is protected under the law. Alongside this exciting new work, the chorale returns to a favorite, Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs, which paints a tender picture of the blossoming of young love. Dale Trumbore’s If I say Yes, is a meditation on the work we do to continue to choose our partner, and Daniel Pinkham’s Wedding Cantata is a showstopper that showcases the majesty of the full forces of the Chorale, the combined choirs of Santa Clara University, and the San José Chamber Orchestra.
