Experience San Jose Symphonic Choir and Cal Arte Ensemble in Season 96: Vibrant Vienna and explore the musical vitality at the turn of the 19th century.
Vibrant Vienna represents the musical connections that link the lives of three composers who lived and worked in Vienna, Austria. Hummel was a student of Mozart's, and lived with his family for two years; Mozart heard the young Beethoven perform and Beethoven and Hummel were both rivals and friends.
“The music of Mozart, Hummel, and Beethoven bridge the time when the shape of classical music was changing from the ordered elegance of the Classical period to the turbulence and drama of the Romantic era,” said Leroy Kromm, SJSC Music Director. “Performing in San Jose's Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph delivers an experience to hear awe-inspiring works in a setting that is acoustically rich evoking a quality of sound that transforms the audience.”
