El último sueño de Frida y Diego - by Gabriela Lena Frank with a libretto by Nilo Cruz. This opera is a co-commission of the San Francisco Opera.
Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera were famous, accomplished painters and lovers, in the first half of the 20th Century. When this opera opens, it's been three years since she has passed. Now, on the Day of the Dead in 1957, the only day of the year that loved ones can crossover that final boundary, a lonely, ailing Diego makes a final wish -- to see is wife Friday once more. And the underworld heeds his call.
