In a first-ever co-production with The Lab and with support from the Italian Cultural Institute, SFEMF presents three nights of live electronic performances featuring a diverse cadre of internationally renowned and emerging creators. This year's lineup highlights local musicians and long-time SFEMF collaborators whose work ranges from mind-altering synthesized sounds, to elegant amplified sound art, to industrial polyrhythms and shamanic practices. The festival opens Friday, September 16th with the celestial audiovisual work of Michelle Moeller, followed by the organic textures of Dev Bhat as shipwreck detective, and concluding with the stunning multimedia work of Luciano Chessa. Saturday, September 17th presents the globally inspired sounds of electronic duo gabby wen + jorge bachmann, Amma Ateria’s sonic explorations of the psychoacoustic, and the engrossing agrestal world of electronic pioneer and “king of sampling” Carl Stone. The festival concludes on Sunday, September 18th with the live tape manipulations of instrument builder and vocalist Anne Hege, the rhythmically ritualistic Only Now (Kush Arora), and Rova Electric 6 with Gino Robair & Tom Djll – the electro-acoustic collaboration between Rova Saxophone Quartet and Unpopular Electronics (Gino Robair and Tom Djll).
