This season’s concluding program features powerful pieces by powerful duos - either husband and wife, or father and son - while creating a generational and collaborative dialogue between composers known for charting their own courses along cross-genre trajectories. With Anthony Braxton as the eldest voice in the mix, his son Tyondai combines his own experience as a rock musician and sensibilities for orchestral music into a dance-inspired musical tapestry, while Miya Masoaka and George Lewis offer contrasting viewpoints on group virtuosity and the nature of the performer and audience dynamic. Ayana Braun, another winner of our annual SF Search for Scores commissioning prize, delivers a new composition for solo cello, inspired by one or more of this coterie of interconnected artists and thinkers.
