Sacramento Ballet, one of the finest regional ballet companies in the country, announces Mozart in Motion. Featuring works by Sacramento native Jodie Gates, Artistic Director Amy Seiwert and Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award winner Darrell Grand Moultrie.
Mozart's melodies have captured choreographic imaginations for centuries. Sacramento native Jodie Gates stages her neo-classical Embellish, described by The New York Times as "fluent and theatrically savvy." Gates is Vice Dean and Director of USC's Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, and former artist with the Joffrey and Frankfurt Ballets. We pair this with Seiwert's interpretation of Richard Maunder's edition of Mozart's famously unfinished Requiem. The San Francisco Chronicle praised "...the sheer expansiveness of (Seiwert's) vision... an intensely focused work."
Darrell Grand Moultrie is a nationally recognized choreographer who has created works for some of the most prestigious companies in the United States including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and artists such as Savion Glover and Beyonce. With Moultrie's new work for Mozart in Motion, this marks the third piece that he has choreographed for Sacramento Ballet.
