Fate will make a three-fold appearance in Redwood Symphony’s June 4 concert in the Main Theater at Cañada College in Redwood City.
The hilarious Israeli film Footnote mines a father-son rivalry for laughs, and Amit Poznansky’s brilliant score will open the program.
Maurice Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand will feature soloist Natalya Lundtvedt, a Redwood Symphony favorite. “Ravel wrote his powerful and jazz-inflected concerto for a soloist who lost his right hand in World War I,” Maestro Eric K said. “The concerto features a jaw-droppingly gymnastic solo part that creates the illusion of two hands.”
The program will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony. “Following the model of Beethoven’s Fifth, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth depicts a hard-won triumph over Fate, with some of the composer’s most gorgeous melodies and irresistible grandiosity.”
Redwood Symphony has used the pandemic-enforced separation to develop a new ticketing system. With the addition of the new Arts People platform, it will now be able to offer its patrons the opportunity to choose their own reserved (and socially distanced) seats in the theater.
Tickets (at $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $10 for students) will be available online only at this website: https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?performance=574347.
No tickets will be sold at the door. Patrons will have to be masked and show proof of full vaccination, including a booster, before entering the building.
The 90-minute concert will be presented without intermission to minimize the time patrons spend in the hall. Programs will be provided in PDF format on the Redwood Symphony website (RedwoodSymphony.org) a week before the concert.
Please understand that the fluidity of the pandemic continues to disrupt public events of all kinds. Program changes — or even cancellation of the concert — may be necessary.
Redwood Symphony’s extensive COVID-19 Protocols, which have been updated throughout the pandemic for the protection of the orchestra and our patrons, are available here: https://redwoodsymphony.org/covid-19-protocols/.
Parking at Cañada College is ample and free. It’s located at 4200 Farm Hill Blvd., Redwood City, just off Highway 280.
Redwood Symphony has been a winner in the San Francisco Classical Voice’s Best of the Bay competition. Its innovative programming and emphasis on education are two reasons why so many of the most talented musicians from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area volunteer their time to play, and why audiences and critics have been so enthusiastic about Redwood Symphony’s artistry.
