It’s Redwood Arts’ ruby anniversary! Redwood Arts opens its 40th season with a favorite in his fourth appearance: the internationally renowned guitarist Paul Galbraith. The program includes by J.S. Bach, Scriabin, Albéniz and Haydn. Mr. Galbraith plays a unique 8-string guitar, which departs from the established format through an asymmetrical stringing design borrowed from the lute family. It was named the ‘Brahms Guitar’ for its richness of sound and wide range. It has a cello-like endpin that Paul rests on a box to enhance the projection of instrument’s rich sound. On this instrument, Paul has recorded a series of highly acclaimed albums, starting with the music of Brahms piano variations, and continuing with a Haydn Sonata; ‘French Impressions’, with music by Debussy & Ravel; Britten’s famous Nocturnal for guitar; and Bach’s Sonatas & Partitas which was nominated for a Grammy award. His latest CD, Allemande, was released in 2017.
