World Premiere
A nexus is a connection or series of connections linking two or more things. Entropy, one of the fundamental laws of nature, is the degree of disorder, predictability or randomness in a system; total entropy will always increase over time for an isolated system. Ulrich Krieger’s Nexus Entropy explores a variety of compositional systems with various degrees of uncertainty through a variety of organizational models. The compositional entropy is further enhanced by the use of blurry, imprecise sounds and sound production. These quasi-electronic instrumental sounds, further treated by and mixed with electronics, create a soundscape that, over time, becomes neither electronic nor instrumental. Like the degradation of matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity, these two sound worlds start blending and finally are completely indistinguishable. Christian Zanesi’s Grand Bruit will also be performed. Ensemble IRE is Franck Vigroux, electronics; Hélène Breschand, harp and effects; Philippe Foch, percussion; Christophe Ruetsch, electronics; and Kasper T. Toeplitz, electric bass and computer.
