Phenix Opera Company presents in its 2020 Season two magnificent operas, a tragedy and a comedy.
Lucrezia, a one-act opera by Italian Ottorino Respighi, tells the story of a noble woman, wronged by the lustful prince of Rome Sextus Tarquino. His brutal offense left her no choice but to defend her honor through blood. This is a rare opportunity to see this remarkable work, as it has not been performed in the U.S. since 1979.
Gianni Schicchi, a one-act opera by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, tells the story a working-class man who found himself in the midst of a greedy and wealthy family trying to solve a problem: How could they modify their late relative's will to benefit them? There is a dead body, a loud and crazy family, two lovers and a father that is trying his best to keep his sanity. The perfect ingredients for a rich and delicious comedy!
