Earplay was launched in SF in 1985 by composers and musicians fueled by a passion for new chamber music, and since that time, each of our programs wholly encompasses music written in the 20th and 21st centuries. Earplay has performed more than 600 works by 350 composers, including 162 world premieres and 96 new works commissioned by the ensemble. Rescheduled from January, the Dream Sequence concert mark’s the centennial of celebrated American composer Andrew Imbrie’s birth. As a tribute, Earplay will perform the composer’s evocative Dream Sequence, a large-scale work for mixed octet in three movements, the music moving through states of fading consciousness, dream-state confrontations, and flights of fancy, at turns playful, passionate, and perturbed. Other highlights on this concert include Hyo-shin Na’s To the Ice Mountains, Tyshawn Sorey’s For Fred Lerdahl, and Fred Lerdahl’s Solitude.
