This summer, the sounds of chamber music will fill barrel rooms and wine caves up and down the Napa Valley as Music in the Vineyards (MITV) presents its 25th Anniversary festival, running July 31 – August 25. Known for its twilight concerts in atmospheric venues with wine tasting at intermission, the festival is now harvesting the fruits of its labor and has become renowned not just for its beautiful wine country setting, but also for the caliber of its performers, the quality of music it produces, and the relationships it fosters between artists and audience.

Our Competition Winners Showcase features the 2nd Street Quartet, our 2019 Apprentice String Quartet, and the winners of our 6th annual Solo Instrumental Competition.

2nd Street Quartet
Violin: Agatha Blevin, Gracie Carney
Viola: Mason Spencer
Cello: Adrian Golay

2019 is the second year of Music in the Vineyards String Quartet Apprentice Program, designed to identify and nurture an emerging ensemble. This year’s winner, chosen by national auditions, is Indiana University-based 2nd Street Quartet. To further Music in the Vineyards’ commitment to community engagement and to increase accessibility to chamber music, our Apprentice Quartet will perform free concerts throughout the valley as well as collaborate with Music in the Vineyards’ musicians. The full schedule of free performances can be found here.

Solo Instrumental Competition
Now in its 6th year, Music in the Vineyards’ Solo Instrumental Competition for high school musicians who are residents of California, awards cash prizes of $1000, $750 and $500 to three outstanding instrumentalists selected by competitive audition.
