Chamber music to welcome spring -the EOS Ensemble in The Studio at Marin Art and Garden Center.

Program:

String Quartet in C Major Op.33, No.3 “The Bird", Haydn subtitled “The Bird” because of its distinctive birdlike trills and grace note ornaments.

“Dover Beach” for String Quartet and Baritone, Samuel Barber - Barber’s setting of Matthew Arnold’s poem evokes the waves on the ocean and the reflection of the moon on the water.

Auf dem Flusse (On the River), Franz Schubert - Schubert is famous for his depictions of nature in his Lieder and these selections depict the rippling river, a violent winter storm and a capricious trout darting to and fro in a clear brook

String Quartet in F Major, Maurice Ravel -  Ravel’s use of musical “impressionism” evokes many possibilities to the listener, such as a sunrise in the opening theme, or fierce gusts of wind in the finale.
