LYRIC THEATRE, in our 50th year of high quality live musical theater productions, offers a classic by the most famous musical theater duo of England, WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.
"Tender hearted pirates meet innocent maidens guarded by the Major-General. Hail Poetry!" Gilbert & Sullivan's most popular show which was also a successful Broadway show and movie.
Pirates follows the story of Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to pirates instead of pilots, and due to his leap year birthday, must continue until he is 84 years old. He is in love with Mabel, who agrees to wait for him - really? Pirates shows the power of poetry to express our grief, our joy, our despair, our love, and our honor.
Pirates includes "Poor wandering one", "Hail Poetry", "With cat-like tread" and the much-parodied "Major-General's Song".
Pirates ran for 787 performances on Broadway, winning three Tony Awards and had a successful film adaptation, starring Kevin Kline, Linda Ronstadt and Angela Lansbury.
