Conductor Jaime Martín leads the Orchestra in a festive, Folk music-inspired program filled with sonic thrills. Gil Shaham, one of the “most inspiring violinists of his generation” (New York Times) takes the stage to dazzle with Dvořák’s rich and compelling violin concerto, followed by works from Ligeti, Bartók and Kodály that uniquely evoke the vibrant texture and diversity of folk music traditions.
The concert opens with the world premiere of Juan Pablo Contreras’ Lucha Libre!, a musical ‘battle’ between good and evil. Which of the six LACO soloists will reign supreme? This is the second of three Sound Investment premieres of the season.
