Helia Music Collective and the SFCM Clarinet Ensemble, led by Jeff Anderle, present their collaboration - Return - an in-person, live concert at San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
This exciting program of new works written by women for clarinet ensembles of varying sizes features four newly-commissioned works by Theresa Wong, Shawne Anell Workman, Emma Logan, and Julie Barwick. Also included on the program are clarinet duos written by Bay Area composer, Belinda Reynolds, and SFCM composition professor, Elinor Armer, as well as a clarinet quartet by Anna Meadors.
Co-founded by musician/composers Emma Logan and Julie Barwick, Helia Music Collective supports the creative endeavors of women in music throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Helia Music seeks to enrich the community and expand the engagement of women artists through educational outreach and collaborations, with performances and workshops taking place in unique and diverse spaces.
The SFCM Clarinet Ensemble is committed to commissioning and performing works by living composers. It has been performing regularly since 2013 and has premiered more than 10 pieces, including works by Marc Mellits, Jonathan Russell, and Lisa Bielawa, as well as performing works by Steve Reich, Evan Ziporyn, and Ken Thomson. The ensemble was featured at the SFCM Centennial Gala and was a performer at ClarinetFest 2019 in Knoxville, TN, and will perform at ClarinetFest 2022 in Reno, NV.
