A FROZEN FESTIVAL
The Symphony, Sinfonietta, and El Camino Wind Orchestra perform in a festive afternoon program at the beautiful California Theatre in Downtown San Jose. Show up dressed as your favorite character from Disney’s Frozen or Frozen 2 and your admission is free!
The performance features young artists Ellen Cheng, flute, and Anna Jun, violin.
Ellen Cheng is a sophomore at Homestead High School in Cupertino. She had studied piano for 5 years and voice for 2 years prior to starting the flute in 5th grade. She currently studies with Isabelle Chapuis, and her previous teacher was Jill Heinke Moen.
Ellen enjoys playing in band, participating in summer camps and in competitions. In the past, she has won 1st place for the VOCE competition state final, 1st place in the Colorado Flute Artist Competition, and 3rd place in the SF Flute Society Youth Competition. She also played in the All-State ensembles both years of junior high. When there were opportunities, she performed for middle school cultural events and senior homes.
Anna Jun is a fifteen-year-old sophomore at Valley Christian High School. She currently studies under Davis Law; this is her second year in the GSYO Senior Symphony, and she previously was in CYS. She has also been a winner of the GSYO Solo Concerto Competition and participates in the KAMSA Youth Orchestra. Besides music, Anna has also competed and won at numerous science and engineering competitions. Outside of school, Anna is an active volunteer at Reading Partners and also at the Korean-American Community Services. In addition, she is involved in her school’s student government, AMSE Astronomy Research Program, as well as Model UN.
