Gold Coast concert: Seriously Mozart

Presented by Gold Coast Chamber Players

Gold Coast Chamber Players

The Gold Coast Chamber Players present Seriously Mozart, the final performance of a five-concert series, on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 7:30 pm in the Don Tatzin Community Hall at the Lafayette Library, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette, CA. This performance was rescheduled from January due to Covid. A pre-concert interactive experience begins at 7 pm. This live concert will be recorded and all ticket holders also have the option to watch the concert virtually beginning on June 7.

Seriously Mozart explores the elegant, dramatic, and playful elements associated with this favorite composer. Violinist Grace Park, violist Pamela Freund-Striplen, cellist Jennifer Culp, and pianist Julio Elizalde bring to life three late works by Mozart; Sonata for violin and piano in B-Flat Major, KV. 454 Piano Trio in G Major, K. 496, and Piano Quartet in G minor, K. 478. The pre-concert experience replaces the usual musicologist lecture by blending live and virtual conversations with demonstrations by the musicians in an innovative way.

Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle as being “fresh, different and exhilarating” and Strings Magazine as “intensely wrought and burnished,” violinist Grace Park is the Winner of the 2018 Naumburg International Violin Competition. Her recent Carnegie Hall recital was received with wild enthusiasm and her performance on Seriously Mozart marks her GCCP debut. Cellist Jennifer Culp has performed with many inspired musicians including members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, and Amadeus Quartets, as well as Tom Waits and the Romanian Gypsy Band 'Taraf de Haidouks'. Ms. Culp was the cellist of Kronos Quartet from 1998 to 2005 who were named Musical America's 2003 "Musicians of the Year" and won a Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance of Berg's Lyric Suite in 2004.

The gifted American pianist Julio Elizalde is a multi-faceted artist who enjoys a versatile career as a soloist, chamber musician, artistic administrator, educator, and curator. Praised as a musician of "compelling artistry and power" by the Seattle Times, he tours internationally with world-renowned violinists Sarah Chang and Ray Chen and has performed with members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, Takács, Kronos, and Brentano string quartets. Violist Pamela Freund-Striplen has a vibrant chamber music career, touring internationally with the Amati Ensemble and performing with the Gold Coast Chamber Players where she also serves as Artistic Director. Ms. Freund-Striplen enjoys creating new ways to engage audiences including using Mixed and Virtual Reality.
