Third Coast Percussion
“…virtuosity and deft, precisely timed wit” – The Washington Post
“Technical precision, palpable groove and outstanding sound” – Time Out New York
Performance November 17
Third Coast Percussion is a Grammy winning quartet of classically trained percussionists hailing from Chicago. Founded in 2005, the ensemble has forged a unique path in the musical landscape with virtuosic, energetic performances that celebrate the extraordinary depth and breadth of musical possibilities in the world of percussion. A percussion quartet is not made up of four instruments but four musicians who play a potentially infinite number of instruments. They have commissioned dozens of new works and the composers seemed to relish these infinite possibilities.

The quartet of Sean Connors, Robert Dillon, Peter Martin, and David Skidmore have been entertaining music lovers of all types for fifteen years now. They have won Grammys, performed with many legends of modern classical and jazz; and within their busy world of performances, they are the Ensemble-Residence at the University of Notre Dame.

You do not want to miss the concert in their upcoming performance at 2:30 pm in Faye Spanos Concert Hall, on Sunday November 17, 2019.

In a recent interview on KDFC, David Skidmore observed that “Percussion ensembles are rare because there’s a great deal of infrastructure that needs to exist for a percussion ensemble to perform and rehearse, and tour,” “We play different instruments on almost every piece, so there’s plenty of variety for everyone… Unlike a string quartet, where at least traditionally, like the first violin maybe has a lead part… In percussion ensemble music, that’s not the case. Each player might be completely equal, but just playing on different instruments.” “Percussion ensemble is as much visual as it is aural. We’re playing a bunch of instruments that are spread out across the stage, and just the physicality of the motions of playing percussion music, it does end up looking like choreography.”

The Third Coast Percussion will provide a rich and rewarding chamber music concert presented by Stockton’s Friends of Chamber Music. Come enjoy the concert.

Tickets are $25 and are available in the lobby of Faye Spanos Concert Hall at UOP starting at 2:00 pm, 30 minutes before the concert. Students of any age are admitted free.

The audience is invited to meet the musicians at a reception following the concert.

Friends of Chamber Music concerts are presented in cooperation with Pacific and its Conservatory of Music. For a brochure or more information about the FOCM annual series, please call 209-956-2868 or visit www.chambermusicfriends.org.
