Adaskin Trio
Performance September 18, 2022
The Adaskin String Trio is a wonderful combination three artists; Emlyn Ngal, violinist, Steve Larson, Viola, and Mark Fraser, cellist. They take a particular pleasure introducing audiences to gorgeous and rarely heard gems by undeservedly neglected masters such as Taneyev, Martinu, Rozsa, Berkeley and Klein. Their performances of rarely played works by such composers as Sergei Taneiev, Lennox Berkeley and Miklas Rozsa have been revelations to both novice and seasoned chamber music enthusiasts.
The New York Newsday wrote “The Adaskin String Trio play with carefully conceived unity and striking attention to detail and nuance. One was struck with the remarkable uniformity with which the players calibrate dynamics, phrasing tone color and even the weight and speed of their bows.”
Gramophone notes the “Superb playing…a flexible command of flow and phrase with instrumental power and eloquence and a nutty tonal richness
Although the Adaskin String Trio is currently based in New England, the members of the trio are all originally from Canada.
Emlyn Ngai, in addition to his role on modern violin in the trio, is a highly respected historical violinist. He is Associate Concertmaster for the Carmel Bach Festival Orchestra and Concertmaster of the Philadelphia baroque orchestra and chamber ensemble Tempest di Mare.
Violist Steve Larson is a Senior Artist Teacher at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford, and has served as Chair for Strings and Chair of Chamber Music. He is a founding member of the acclaimed Ensemble Schumann, and is Principal Viola of the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra and Chair of Viola Studies for the Wintergreen Summer Music Academy.
Cellist Mark Fraser was the founding Artistic Director of Project Renaissance, an arts festival near Montreal and is Executive Artistic Director of Mohawk Trail Concerts, one of New England’s longest standing chamber music series. He also performs as soloist and in recital.
