Ensemble for These (Summer) Times: #1 Roots & Recordings

Presented by Ensemble for These Times

summer_times_program_covers-1.jpg

E4TT’s summertime listening series of biweekly, topical programs of relevant new music from the group’s performance archives. Each program will focus on a different theme, and starting with the second program, will be paired with an interview with a creative artist who has collaborated with E4TT. Links will be announced via the group’s newsletter and social media and will expire when the new program goes live. Dates planned for the series are July 14, July 28, August 11, and August 25.

The first program in the series will be "Roots and Recordings," a musical exploration of E4TT's journey from our origins in setting poetry by Mascha Kaléko (recorded on our first, Silver Medal CD, "Surviving: Women's Words") to our second Gold Medal recording ("The Hungarians: From Rozsa to Justus") with repertory from when we toured our Kaléko settings to Hungary, to E4TT’s latest release, "Once/Memory/Night: Paul Celan." Celan's words are a direct, personal response to his experiences of loss, disempowerment, imprisonment and survival under a brutal regime, during a time of rising "strong-men leaders" and nationalism: his world and works are deeply relevant now and ever-resonant with these times.
