A special program of trio, duo, and solo compositions by clarinetist Peter Josheff, one of Earplay's founding members. Also featuring Earplayers Tod Brody, flutes, and Brenda Tom, piano, with special guests Wilford Kelly, baritone, and Thalia Moore.
A little bit about the music from Peter...
Sutro Tower in the Fog (2011): A meditation on the grotesque majesty of that ubiquitous Bay Area landmark. One my most performed works. Brenda, Tod and I have played it a lot.
Root Cellar (2024): A brand new solo piano piece, dedicated to Brenda.
Air (formerly Big Brother) (2014):An easygoing exploration of the wonderful low register of the piccolo, written for Tod.
Caught Between Two Worlds (2003, 2009): For spoken voice (Thalia), baritone (Wilford) and the trio. Three interrelated poems by my mother, Dorothy Cary. A story of deep family history and memory.
Images from the Past, Warped Oracle, Rag Wrung Dry and Exquisite Corpus: Selections from four books of songs for spoken voice and piano (2018-2023). Settings of my own poems, dreams, nature writing, stories, journal entries.
Overture from 3 Hands (2003); “Ice Cream” Aria from 3 Hands (2003) libretto by Jaime Robles: Six cheerful good-natured guys play three hands of poker. During the game Alex (Wilford) tells of his feelings for a girl working in an ice cream shop he visits while rebuilding an old cottage.
