A DAY OF VILLAGE-STYLE RITUAL PERFORMANCES LEAD BY GUGGENHEIM-AWARD WINNING VISIONARY DOHEE LEE - BRINGING TOGETHER COMMUNITIES AND CELEBRATING EAST OAKLAND.
Dohee Lee Puri Arts presents a FREE festival with music, dance, food, art, and celebration in the heart of East Oakland, with local performance ensembles Bay Area Bhutanese Youth (dance & storytelling) CoRazOn (dance) Ieumsae (Korean folk drumming), Labor y Dignidad (Day laborer's performance collective), Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago (drumming), Visual Landscape Design by Dana Kawano, and lead by master performance artist, Dohee Lee (dance, music) and the Puri Arts ensemble.
Through a multi-year collaborative process, this diverse coalition of community members creates new ritual for our modern, urban villages and empowers our voices in the fight for equity, justice and freedom.
Our festival brings us together to recognize, honor and harmonize with nature, land, ancestors and spirit. We tell our stories through ritual performance, breaking the silence and creatively confronting memories of grief and fear, and continuing the process of reconciliation and healing.
ABOUT FRIENDS OF PERALTA HACIENDA HISTORICAL PARK
The mission of Friends of Peralta Hacienda Historical Park is to promote understanding, historical healing and community amid change and diversity. We present and interpret the untold history of the Peralta rancho and the stories of the Fruitvale community today, giving voice to the many cultures that have created - and are still transforming - California. The six-acre park and historic house form an arts and educational hub for local families and youth, and regional center for historical inquiry and discovery.
