Oakland Symphony Associate Conductor Takes the Podium with Local Chamber Orchestra
On November 23, the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra will present "Love, Death, and Nature" featuring baritone recording artist Zachary Gordin. Described by Gramophone as "communicating tangible pleasure in his material", Gordin will perform in the premier of the orchestral arrangement of Ralph Vaughn Williams's poignant House of Life.
Also on the program are Weber's Overture from Der Freischutz, considered to be the first important Romantic German opera, and Dvorak's rarely-performed masterpiece, Symphony No. 5.
Bryan Nies, who is the gifted long-time Associate Conductor of the Oakland Symphony and Principal Conductor of Festival Opera, will conduct the program. He is serving as Interim Conductor/Music Director of the orchestra, and will also provide fascinating insights about the composers and their work during the concert.
