Our November 15 concert features the world premier performance of An Apology to Black Women, by Daniel Bernard Roumain, commissioned by Community Concerts at Epworth and dedicated to shooting victim Breonna Taylor. Known for his signature violin sounds infused with myriad electronic, urban, and African-American music influences, Roumain is also an award-winning composer of chamber, orchestral, and operatic works. The work will be performed by violist and Community Concerts' Artistic Director, Caroline Lee.
Each concert in our 2020 Fall Season includes a tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven, born 250 years ago in December 1770. Our second offering of the season is his Sonata No. 9, composed in 1805 and dedicated to popular violinist Rodolph Kreutzer. It will be performed this afternoon by Cordula Merks, Concertmaster of the San Francisco Ballet orchestra, accompanied by pianist Britton Day.
We welcome the return of virtuoso bass and cello duo, 2Low for its second performance this season. Japanese-American composer and musician Shinji Eshima wrote Bariolage for duo members Charles Chandler and Amos Yang, who premiered it at Davies Symphony Hall in 2016.
Our Fall Season performances are streamed live from our concert venue, Epworth United Methodist Church of Berkeley. Watch and listen at 4:00PM Sunday on the Community Concerts website: www.communityconcertepworth.org and on Facebook: www.facebook.com/communityconcertepworth
