Melissa Dunphy

The 2021 - 2022 Evensong Series, monthly offerings on Sundays at 4pm, continues with Choral Evensong on October 24, sung by the Choir of St. Paul’s.

Drawing on the ancient monastic offices of Vespers and Compline, the beautiful and uniquely Anglican service of Choral Evensong (sung Evening prayer) is centered on sung prayer, psalms, and Scripture readings. The service is 45 minutes in length.

The October 24th Evensong includes the premiere of a choral work by Philadelphia composer Melissa Dunphy. This first setting of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis by Dunphy was commissioned by the Marcia McCowin Estate Fund, established to highlight the work of women composers and poets at St. Paul’s. Dr. McCowin was a Professor of Clinical Radiology at UCSF and a generous supporter of Music at St. Paul’s.

In this 15th Anniversary Season of the Evensong Series and Choir School, join in the festive offerings in a journey toward the July 2022 Residency by the Choir of St. Paul’s at Wells Cathedral, England.
