Emerging Artist Adam Torres: SLAC Quartet Debut

SLAC Quartet is an exciting new band from the Bay Area that plays music rooted in jazz. The group includes Carson Grimes on drums, Luke Clingerman on bass, Simon Petty on guitar, and Adam Torres on alto saxophone. They are happy to bring their debut to the California Jazz Conservatory with a set of original music.

Emerging Artist concerts feature currently enrolled CJC degree program students, allowing them to develop skills in presenting live performances in front of an audience.

Artist Bios

Adam Torres is a saxophonist and composer based in the Bay Area. Originally from San Luis Obispo County, he has certificates in Music and Audio Technology from Cuesta College, and is currently getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies from the California Jazz Conservatory. He’s played for years in San Luis Obispo’s many music venues, and is excited to debut his quartet at the California Jazz Conservatory.

Simon Keyser Petty is a Producer, composer and Multi-instrumentalist from Sacramento California, and a graduate of the Berkeley CJC program where he studied under the great Mimi Fox. At Hyde Street Studio's own Studio D, Simon apprentices under Joe Bagale, and builds a career as a producer, recording original music and bringing others' artistic visions to life.

Carson Grimes is a Drummer and Composer From Northern California, playing and recording across Sacramento and the Bay Area. He is a versatile musician who has received accolades from Downbeat and Sfjazz, and has studied under Carl Allen, Dave Weckl, Tim Metz, Rick Lotter, and Kenwood Dennard. Carson is a creatively confident and modern drummer who has studied at Berklee College of music, and is currently studying at the California Jazz Conservatory with Gerald Cleaver.

Luke Clingerman is a composer, upright and electric bassist from the East Bay. He has been playing bass for over ten years and has been performing throughout the Bay Area regularly for years now with a variety of different bands and genres. He attended Las Positas College and is currently pursuing a degree at the California Jazz Conservatory.
