Palo Alto’s elite 40-voice choir, Bay Choral Guild, is excited to announce the return to singing with a full slate of concerts for the 2021-22 season. We are seeking fully-vaccinated singers, in all voice parts, to join us for music-making at the highest level.
We rehearse on Monday evenings from 7:30-10:00 at First United Methodist Church, 625 Hamilton Ave. in Palo Alto. Rehearsals begin on Sept. 13, 2021 for our 42nd season. Please visit baychoralguild.org/auditions for more information and to arrange an audition.
HOLIDAY TRADITIONS
December 3-5, 2021
Our season opens with modern settings of familiar carols, several new-to-us Christmas pieces, Harry Simeone's inimitable choral arrangement of the Nutcracker Suite, and the premiere of Sanford Dole's recent composition, Peace on Earth.
MEMORIAL GARDEN
March 4-6, 2022
A program dedicated to all the people whom we have lost since the last time we were together before the pandemic. The centerpiece of this concert is Eleanor Daley's Requiem—the Canadian composer’s gentle and heartfelt setting of the traditional Latin texts interspersed with psalms and poetry in English—accompanied by shorter pieces by Pavel Chesnokov, Ola Gjeilo, Melissa Dunphy, and other contemporary composers.
O SING JOYFULLY
June 3-5, 2022
Our season closer celebrates the upbeat side of the choral art form. Spanning the centuries, from Lassus to Bach to Roxanna Panufnik, the program features the many ways composers old and new glorify God, as well as a look at 20th century poetry and a Broadway musical. We plan to perform both old favorites such as Charles Stanford's Beati quorum via and pieces that are new to us and probably to you, including Bob Chilcott's A Little Jazz Mass.
