Called “quirky, quintessentially Hong Kong, and bold” (Time magazine), the hour-long chamber opera Mila follows its four-night sold-out 2018 premiere run at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center with its first North American performances at New York’s Angel Orensanz Center (Dec 7) and San Francisco’s Wilsey Center for Opera (Dec 12). With music by the American-born composer Eli Marshall and libretto by the prominent Hong Kong playwright Candace Chong Mui Ngam, the international creative team also includes award-winning theater director Chu Hei Chan and the New York-based music director Neal Goren leading the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble. Sung in English, Cantonese and Tagalog, Mila features a cast from Hong Kong, Manila and the United States.
