Matthew Xie-Lutenist

Hello,

My name is Matthew, I specialize in art song text expression on the theorbo, lute, and baroque guitar with a decade of performance and teaching experience across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia.

My musical education began at 5 years old where I studied piano for 10 years in private instruction. I am also familiar with Certificate of Merit

I hold a Master’s in Historical Performance (Lute/Theorbo), graduating magna cum laude from the Koninklijk Conservatorium, where I studied with Joachim Held and Mike Fentross. I also studied with Rich Savino and Marc Teicholz at SFCM in Classical Guitar Performance.

In teaching, I guide students from beginner to professional levels, focusing on historically informed performance and technical skill. My approach combines modern and historical methods to help students develop clarity in whatever style of music they desire. I am interested developing artistic expression in the next generation of musicians.
