Federico Strand Ramirez is an active cellist and teacher in the Bay Area. A San Francisco native, Federico grew up playing cello in public schools and participated in a wide variety of educational programs, such as the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and summer chamber music workshops at The Crowden School.
Now as a professional, Federico teaches cello privately at his home in San Francisco, and through the San Francisco Symphony's Mentors in Music Program. He also regularly coaches cellists through the Golden Gate Philharmonic, San Jose Youth Symphony, and Music Mission SF. Federico focuses on creating a fun and supportive environment, while establishing a solid technical facility and expressive musical fascination.
As a performer he is a member of the Sixth Station Trio, frequently performing at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral and through Old First Concerts. He has soloed with the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra, performing the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto No. 1, been featured in the Library of Congress for his recording work on Lisa Bielawa's Broadcast From Home, and has performed with the Festival Napa Valley orchestra, and the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera.
Federico received his Bachelor of Music and Advanced Certificate degrees at the San Francisco of Music, and his Master of Music degree from the Mannes School of Music in NYC. His primary teachers include Bonnie Hampton, Amos Yang, Fred Sherry, and Jean-Michel Fonteneau.
