Dominique Piana

My teaching career started in Brussels area music academies, teaching solfège (sight-singing) while I was a harp student. I also have an extensive piano background. Since moving to California, I have taught many students privately and at university level. I have pursued simultaneously a career focused on solo/ chamber music performance and teaching. It is important for me to leave a legacy, so I am also engaged in music advocacy, writing on harp literature and in arranging, editing and publishing harp music.

I like to start students from scratch, because I believe in building a good foundation and instilling a sense for excellence at the very start, as good technique frees the mind and the hands to follow the heart. I like to find what makes my students tick to find repertoire that really suits them. To me, teaching is a high calling and practicing a privileged activity. Many of my former students have won competitions and lead successful musical careers.
