ABOUT PIEDMONT EAST BAY CHILDREN’S CHOIR (PEBCC)
Founded in 1982, the award-winning Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir (PEBCC) has earned
international recognition for its exceptional choral training and innovative performances. With
an annual enrollment of around 300 young singers (ages 4-18), PEBCC provides a rigorous
Kodály-based music education and offers unparalleled performance and international exchange
opportunities. PEBCC also founded the prestigious Golden Gate International Choral Festival,
the only children’s and youth choir festival of its kind in the United States. Committed to musical
innovation, the choir actively commissions new choral works and has received multiple Chorus
America/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming.

OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS
● Salary: $140,000 - $165,000

YOU ARE
● A strategic, dynamic leader with at least seven years of executive leadership
experience in the nonprofit sector, preferably in nonprofit arts management, or youth
development, or education.
● A savvy fundraiser, with a proven record in donor cultivation, major gifts solicitations,
grant acquisition, and multi-year development planning.
● A collaborative, warm and inspirational communicator.
● Able to naturally engage and function as a bridge to connect and foster a diverse
collection of stakeholders, including board members, donors, singer families, arts
organizations, and more.
● Passionate about the arts and music education and/or youth development, with a
commitment to building welcoming and inclusive programming and leadership.
● Skilled in board governance, program expansion, and financial oversight.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Cook Silverman Search Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir Executive Director
The Executive Director (ED) will lead PEBCC’s mission, strategic vision, and financial
sustainability while fostering an inclusive and innovative organizational culture. This position is
in office.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and works in close partnership
with the Artistic Director. The ED leads external relations, program operations, finance, and
fundraising directly, in addition to managing the day-to-day business operations of PEBCC.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising & Resource Strategy
● Strengthen donor engagement, secure foundation grants, business partnerships, and
oversee fundraising campaigns to ensure long-term financial stability.
● Develop strategies and programs that will motivate donors to support the PEBCC and
maximize earned and contributed revenues.
● Build strong relationships with PEBCC’s constituents including parents, alumni,
community members, volunteers, and partner organizations.
● Expand and diversify contributed revenue to support expanded access.
● Cultivate and strengthen relationships with board members, donors, arts organizations,
and local communities to enhance visibility and impact.
● Establish and implement short-term operational and long-range strategic business plans
to ensure financial stability.
Talent Management & Leadership
● Work in collaboration with the Artistic Director to enhance program excellence, growth,
and community outreach.
● Lead and develop a team of five direct reports ensuring professional growth and fostering
an inclusive work environment.
● Provide day-to-day oversight for the administrative staff of PEBCC to ensure that they
are given the tools to achieve the expected business results.
● Infuse equity commitment into culture, programs, and processes.
● Oversee and manage all business aspects of PEBCC, including finance, human resources,
and logistics.
● Provide strategic leadership to staff, providing opportunities for education and growth.
● Support and work closely with the Board in governance, strategic planning, and policy
development.
● Ensure a diverse and inclusive organization that reflects the East Bay community.
Board & Community Engagement

● Provide support to best utilize the talents and resources of the Board, recruit new
members, and work closely with the Board to ensure strong fiscal health and effective
governance of the organization.
● Work with Board leadership to engage new prospective Board members.
● Create a culture of philanthropy and sound governance in partnership with the Board.
● Encourage and support Board members’ fundraising and outreach activities.
● Cultivate partnerships with community-based organizations, including schools and
performing arts organizations locally, nationally and internationally.

Financial & Operational Management
● Oversee $2M annual budget, ensure strong financial policies, and manage day-to-day
operations effectively.
● Prepare the annual budget in coordination with the Finance Committee to ensure that all
financial obligations are managed in a timely and effective manner.
● Work closely with staff, the Board Treasurer, Finance Director, and Finance Committee of
the Board to prepare the annual budget and track monthly progress, forecasts and cash
flows.
● Ensure the organization operates within sound financial policies and procedures; reviews
and manages reserves and investments; and initiates an audit with an external auditor
every two years.

COMPETENCIES
Required:
● Minimum 7 years of executive nonprofit leadership experience.
● Strong fundraising expertise, including individual major gifts and grants.
● Educational background and training related to profession.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Proven track record of working with a culturally diverse population of patrons,
community leaders, Board Members, volunteers, and staff.
● Knowledge of and experience working with organizations that employ membership
models.
● Experience in strategic planning, financial oversight, and board engagement.
● Outstanding communication and leadership abilities.
● Understanding of and appreciation for the arts and music education.
● Strong interpersonal skills and a leadership style marked by enthusiasm with a desire to
innovate and the ability to develop lasting strategic partnerships and relationship
building.

● Knowledge of the Bay Area arts and philanthropic landscape.
● Experience with youth programs and community engagement.
