2015-2016 - 80th Anniversary Season
October 17 & 18, 2015
The Gift of 1685: the birth of Bach, Handel, & Scarlatti
with the Jubilate Orchestra
G. F. Handel Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne
D. Scarlatti Magnificat
J. S. Bach Brandenburg No. 2 in F major
We open our 80th anniversary season with festive music by three masters, all born in the auspicious year of 1685. This exuberant music displays the full talent and prowess of these youthful composers, (none then older than 36) as they combine Italian, German, and English styles.
DECEMBER 4 & 6, 2015
Christmas by Candlelight
with The Whole Noyse
Welcome the holiday season with our beloved, traditional candlelight concert with the ever-popular merry band The Whole Noyse and their bag of Renaissance instruments. Contemplative, lush, mystical, jubilant: sing Christmas music from many periods and countries -- from Bach chorales to American shape-note hymns, early motets to brand-new creations.
MAY 14 & 15, 2016
J.S. BACH: MASS IN B-MINOR
with the Jubilate Orchestra
Perhaps the greatest choral work ever written, J.S. Bach’s glorious Mass in B-Minor offers a journey of heart and soul; intimate, dazzling, tender, and powerful. Although universally recognized as a pinnacle of human creativity, at its core this work is a personal expression of spiritual devotion that transcends religious boundaries.
MANY VOICES, ONE ART: BAY AREA CHORAL FESTIVAL
SAT. MARCH 5, 2016
2016 marks our 80th birthday so we’re throwing a party! We are thrilled and honored to be part of the rich and vibrant community of choral singing here in the Bay Area. During this daylong event we invite singers of all levels to celebrate our beloved art together.
We will sing and learn, make friends and share our common love of choral singing. Together we will explore Baroque music, vocal technique and period style with a focus on Bach’s eternal Mass in B-Minor.
