Sacred & Profane has openings for voices in all sections (SATB). If you are an experienced singer with a healthy voice & a great attitude, please audition with us for this extraordinary 2016-2017 season.
Our 2015-2016 season began with an enthusiastically received holiday concert featuring holiday music that honored the animals of the Manger. Our February 2015 concert featured two masterworks of the English a cappella canon: William Byrd’s sixteenth century Mass for Five Voices and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ mystical Mass in G Minor. This past May, we sang songs of birds, insects, and all things that take to the sky. The program included classic songs of flight such as Janequins’ Le Chant des Oiseaux and Gibbons’ The Silver Swan, plus more contemporary works such as Sami Joik, a piece written by Jan Sandstöm in the style of the folk music of Lapland, as well as Eric Whitacre’s thrilling Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine.
This coming season is themed “The Gift of Gab: A Celebration of Poetry.” The December set, “A Poet’s Christmas,” is a reenactment of BBC Radio’s Christmas Eve 1944 Program; with additional works on the theme.
Concerts will take place in Berkeley and San Francisco (we hold three in the December concert series and two in the February and May series). Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings 7:30-10 PM in downtown Oakland, with one additional Wednesday and one Saturday rehearsal per set. Dress rehearsals occasionally fall mid-week as well.
